Amaravati: As COVID-19 cases resurface in several Indian states, the Andhra Pradesh government has issued a public advisory urging vigilance and enforcing preventive measures, despite currently reporting zero active cases.
States such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Gujarat are witnessing a sharp rise in COVID-19 infections. In response, the Andhra Pradesh Health, Medical and Family Welfare Department has released strict guidelines aimed at preempting an outbreak within the state.
The advisory mandates the use of face masks in public spaces—particularly in high-density areas like markets, cinema halls, shopping malls, religious sites, and on public transport. Citizens have been urged to take symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, and body aches seriously, and to seek medical consultation and testing where necessary.
Key Guidelines Issued by the Government:
- Avoid large gatherings, including public functions and social events.
- Adhere to COVID protocols at transportation hubs like airports, railway stations, and bus terminals.
- Senior citizens (60+), pregnant women, and people with chronic health issues should avoid public outings.
- Regular handwashing, proper respiratory hygiene, and avoiding face-touching are strongly encouraged.
- Immediate testing and self-isolation are advised upon the onset of symptoms.
- High-risk individuals, including young children and those with pre-existing conditions, should minimize travel and avoid crowds.
As of May 19, 2025, the Ministry of Health has reported 257 active COVID-19 cases across the country, with Kerala (95), Tamil Nadu (66), Maharashtra (55), Karnataka (13), and Puducherry (10) accounting for the majority. Andhra Pradesh, notably, has reported zero active cases so far.
Health officials emphasize that early caution and public cooperation are crucial. Experts have lauded the state government’s proactive measures, reiterating that continued public awareness and adherence to guidelines remain the most effective tools in curbing the spread of the virus.
While the state remains COVID-free for now, authorities warn that complacency could quickly reverse that status. The onus lies not just on the administration but also on citizens to maintain vigilance and act responsibly.
