Bokaro: ESL Steel Limited, a subsidiary of Vedanta Limited, marked World Environment Day 2025 with a week packed with impactful green initiatives focused on sustainability and tackling plastic pollution. Under the theme “Small Steps for a Greener Tomorrow,” the company engaged hundreds in activities designed to spread environmental awareness and foster eco-friendly practices.
Over 400 employees and business partners participated in a series of events, including awareness sessions, quizzes, Pictionary games, and a unique “Ecobits Series”—a daily campaign promoting simple, sustainable lifestyle choices.
Extending its outreach beyond the workplace, ESL educated more than 50 students from its supported archery schools on the dangers of plastic use and the importance of adopting greener alternatives. The week also saw the recognition of top contributors through Best Environment Initiative Awards, celebrating both team and individual efforts. Additionally, over 20 creative posters made by employees echoed the campaign’s sustainability message.
A major highlight was a large-scale plantation drive, where more than 550 saplings were planted across ESL’s plant and CSR sites. As part of its push for plastic-free practices, ESL revamped its canteen operations—eliminating single-use plastics and distributing reusable jute tote bags to participants.
The week concluded with a special ceremony attended by senior leadership, including Deputy CEO & Whole-Time Director Ravish Sharma, Director – Infrastructure Management Amal Ghosh, CHRO Shyamlee Minz, and Deputy Director – Steel Jageshwar Prasad Verma, all of whom lauded the teams’ proactive spirit and dedication.
Reflecting on the occasion, Tapesh Chandra Naskar, Director – Central Engineering & HSES, ESL Steel Ltd., remarked: “At ESL Steel, sustainability isn’t confined to one day—it’s ingrained in our culture. These initiatives showcase our continuous drive to safeguard the environment and encourage positive change, both within the company and in the wider community.”
