Allahabad High Court Rejects Plea to Declare Mathura’s Shahi Idgah as Disputed Structure

Fresh Setback for Hindu Petitioners in Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi–Shahi Idgah Case; Next Hearing on August 2

Mathura: In a significant development in the ongoing legal tussle over the Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi–Shahi Idgah site in Mathura, the Allahabad High Court on Friday rejected a petition seeking to officially designate the Shahi Idgah mosque as a “disputed structure.”

The plea, listed as Application A-44, was filed by Advocate Mahendra Pratap Singh on behalf of the Hindu side. It sought to mark the 17th-century mosque, located adjacent to the Katra Keshav Dev temple, as “disputed” in court records — a move that could have influenced the tone and direction of future proceedings.

However, the single-judge bench of Justice Ram Manohar Narayan Mishra dismissed the application, delivering a setback to Hindu petitioners who have filed multiple suits demanding the removal of the Shahi Idgah Masjid, claiming it was constructed on the birthplace of Lord Krishna, where a temple once stood.

The legal battle over the sacred site continues to stir national attention, drawing parallels with other high-profile religious disputes in India. The next hearing in the matter has been scheduled for August 2.

The case is one among several currently being heard by the court, reflecting deep-rooted historical and religious contentions surrounding the Krishna Janmabhoomi complex.
