From Chalk to Tales: DPS Bokaro Adopts Storytelling for Smarter Teaching

Bokaro: In a bid to make classroom teaching more engaging and impactful, Delhi Public School (DPS) Bokaro organized a capacity-building workshop focused on “Storytelling as a Teaching Tool”. The session, conducted by CBSE’s Centre of Excellence (COE), Patna, saw active participation from 65 teachers of the school.

Renowned educationist and Principal of Guru Gobind Singh Public School, Somen Chakraborty, served as the chief resource person. Emphasizing the effectiveness of storytelling, he said, “Stories have a lasting impact on young minds. They make learning not only interesting but also emotionally enriching.” Chakraborty highlighted storytelling as a key strategy in the 21st-century skill-development toolkit, enhancing comprehension, creativity, and emotional connection between students and teachers.

Rahul Roy, academic supervisor at Chinmaya Vidyalaya, also addressed the gathering, underscoring storytelling as a transformative teaching method that enhances student attention and retention.

Welcoming the experts, DPS Bokaro Principal Dr. A.S. Gangwar called storytelling “a powerful medium to improve teaching style and student focus”. He encouraged teachers to implement the insights gained into real classroom practice.

The workshop began with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony and featured interactive sessions, group activities, quizzes, and hands-on storytelling exercises, all aimed at enriching pedagogical approaches.
