MoS Civil Aviation: Don’t Draw Conclusions Yet on Ahmedabad Air Crash
New Delhi: The Ministry of Civil Aviation on Saturday clarified that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau’s (AAIB) findings on the Air India flight AI 171 crash are preliminary, and urged the public to wait for the final report before drawing conclusions.
Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, emphasized, “This is not the final report. AAIB is an autonomous body, and the ministry does not interfere in its investigations.”

The AAIB’s initial 15-page report, released the same day, revealed that both engines of the Boeing 787-8 aircraft shut down seconds after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12, due to a sudden transition of fuel switches from ‘RUN’ to ‘CUTOFF’. The incident resulted in the deaths of 260 people, including ground casualties, as the plane crashed into a hostel complex near the airport.
Air India stands in solidarity with the families and those affected by the AI171 accident. We continue to mourn the loss and are fully committed to providing support during this difficult time.
