Kolkata: Trinamool Congress MLA Jiban Krishna Saha created a stir on Monday when Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials raided his house over the teachers’ recruitment scam. During the raid, he allegedly tried to escape and threw away his mobile phones, but was soon caught by the ED team.
According to reports, Saha threw away his mobile phones into a drain while trying to escape through the backdoor of his Andi village house. ED sleuths chased him down, recovered the devices, and began questioning him under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Saha, the Burwan MLA, had earlier been arrested by the CBI in 2023 for his alleged role in the scam and was released on bail after 13 months.
His relatives, including his aunt and TMC councillor Maya Saha, also came under the scanner during simultaneous raids.
The school jobs scam has already seen the arrests of former Education Minister Partha Chatterjee, TMC MLA Manik Bhattacharya, and youth leader Kuntal Ghosh. The probe was ordered by former Calcutta High Court judge and current BJP MP Abhijit Ganguly.
