New Delhi: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra has stirred a fresh controversy with her remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the issue of infiltration from Bangladesh.
Addressing a gathering, Moitra said if the government fails to protect India’s borders, respect women, or safeguard land, then “Amit Shah should be beheaded and his head placed on the table.” Her statement, widely reported in the media, has triggered sharp political backlash.

BJP leaders were quick to condemn Moitra’s words. Party national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari called the remark “disgusting” and “disgraceful,” adding on X that it was “pure hate speech, drenched in venom.”
The BJP’s Bengal unit also reacted strongly, saying the comment revealed the “violent culture” within the TMC. “When Mahua talks of beheading the Home Minister, it exposes TMC’s frustration and the violent culture tarnishing Bengal’s image,” read a statement on the party’s official page.
The row comes at a time when the issue of illegal immigration across the India-Bangladesh border has become a flashpoint. Union government data accessed by CNN-News18 revealed that exfiltration cases in the first half of this year touched 3,536 — nearly three times the 1,049 cases reported in 2024.
Political observers believe the controversy could intensify the war of words between the BJP and TMC ahead of crucial state-level political battles.
