Purnea, Bihar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth ₹40,000 crore in Bihar’s Purnea region on Monday, marking a transformative step for the Seemanchal area.

Addressing the gathering, Modi paid tribute to Purnea’s cultural and historical significance, recalling luminaries like Phanishwarnath Renu and Vinoba Bhave. He emphasized that these massive projects, covering railways, power, airports, housing, and irrigation, will fuel economic growth and improve livelihoods.

Key highlights include the inauguration of a 2400 MW thermal power plant in Pirpainti, the launch of new railway lines (Araria–Galgalia and Vikramshila–Kataria), and the flagging off of the Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat trains. Modi also announced the foundation of the Kosi-Mechi intra-state river link project to enhance irrigation and flood control.

Reiterating his government’s focus on social welfare, the PM announced that over 40,000 families now have permanent homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and emphasized ongoing efforts to build 3 crore houses for the poor. He also underlined the establishment of the National Makhana Board and a ₹475 crore plan for makhana sector development, aimed at boosting farmer incomes and promoting technological innovation.

PM Modi concluded by asserting that Bihar’s progress is central to India’s growth, and that sustained development in Purnea and Seemanchal will unlock the region’s true potential.
