Bokaro: Eminent young poet (not poetess) Parvati Tirkey was honoured with the Sneha Smriti Award at a compact yet vibrant literary ceremony organised by the Sneha Smriti Trust at the Bokaro Club on Saturday evening.

Hailing from Gumla district and belonging to the Kurukh tribal community, Tirkey is a Ranchi-based academic, researcher and one of the most powerful new voices in contemporary Hindi poetry. She has been named the 2025 recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar for her debut poetry collection Phir Ugna.

The award was presented by senior writer Prahlad Chandra Das, who lauded Tirkey’s deep connection with Jharkhand’s land, tribal life and cultural consciousness. Advisor to the Trust Mahadev Toppo said her poetry gives an authentic voice to tribal women and lived realities, making her a fitting choice for the honour.

Tirkey was felicitated with a cash award, shawl, memento, citation and a sapling, and she captivated the audience by reciting select verses from her work.

The programme also featured a soulful Mohan Veena recital by Sanjeev Majumdar and the release of poetry titles Manan and Sankal. The event drew a strong gathering of writers, poets and literary enthusiasts, turning the evening into a crisp celebration of literature, culture and emerging voices.
