Indigenous MPATGM Hits Moving Target in DRDO’s Successful Hyderabad Trial
New Delhi: In a major boost to India’s indigenous defence capabilities, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Monday successfully conducted a flight test of its Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM) at a test range near Hyderabad.
According to the Defence Ministry, the missile accurately hit a moving armoured target in its top-attack mode, a critical capability designed to neutralise modern battle tanks by striking their most vulnerable upper surfaces. The test validated the missile’s full operational configuration and its performance under realistic battlefield conditions.

The indigenously developed MPATGM is equipped with cutting-edge homegrown technologies, including an Imaging Infrared (IIR) homing seeker, an all-electric control actuation system, an advanced fire control system, a tandem warhead to defeat explosive reactive armour, a robust propulsion system, and a high-performance sighting system. These features place the missile in the same league as advanced man-portable anti-tank weapons globally.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO scientists, industry partners and production agencies on the successful test. He described the achievement as a significant milestone in India’s journey towards Atmanirbhar Bharat, underlining the country’s growing ability to design and develop critical weapon systems domestically.
Officials noted that the successful trial paves the way for further user-assisted evaluations and eventual induction into the Indian Army, strengthening infantry units with a lightweight yet lethal anti-tank capability tailored for diverse operational environments.
With this test, DRDO has reaffirmed India’s expanding technological depth in precision-guided munitions and its commitment to reducing dependence on imported defence systems.
