RIMS Restricts Media Entry, Makes Prior Permission Mandatory for Reporting and Recording

Ranchi: The administration of the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi has introduced new guidelines regulating media activities within the hospital premises. Under the revised rules, journalists and media personnel will no longer be allowed to enter the campus or conduct reporting, photography, and videography without prior authorization from the hospital authorities.

According to an official order issued by the RIMS administration, permission from the Director, Medical Superintendent, or Additional Medical Superintendent will now be mandatory before undertaking any form of photo or video recording inside the hospital.

No Reporting Without Approval

The new protocol stipulates that no media organization or journalist can carry out reporting, video shooting, or photo coverage within the RIMS campus without obtaining prior clearance from the designated authorities. The rule will apply uniformly to all media representatives.

Move Aimed at Protecting Patient Privacy

Hospital officials said the decision was taken to safeguard the privacy and security of patients undergoing treatment at the state’s premier medical institution. The administration noted that unauthorized reporting and recording can compromise patient confidentiality and interfere with the delivery of healthcare services.

RIMS clarified that the measure is not intended to restrict press freedom but to ensure that patients’ rights and the hospital’s operational requirements are adequately protected.

Preventing Disruptions in Medical Services

According to the hospital management, instances of individuals entering sensitive wards and treatment areas with cameras without authorization have occasionally disrupted medical procedures. The newly introduced permission system is aimed at preventing such disturbances and ensuring the smooth functioning of hospital services.

The administration has urged media personnel to follow the prescribed procedure and obtain prior approval before carrying out any reporting or recording activities within the RIMS premises.
