Bokaro: In a proud moment for Jharkhand and the tribal community, renowned Santhali folk artist Babita Hembram from Chandankiyari block of Bokaro district has been selected for the prestigious Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.
Hembram has earned national recognition for her dedicated efforts in preserving and promoting Santhali folk dance and music. Her contribution to tribal cultural heritage has helped showcase Jharkhand’s rich artistic traditions on a wider platform.
The announcement has been welcomed by artists, cultural organizations, and local residents, who see the award as a significant boost for Santhali folk art and an inspiration for young performers. This is the second major national recognition for Chandankiyari, following the Sangeet Natak Akademi honour conferred on Chhau artist Parikshit Mahato.
Dr. Sanjay, Coordinator of the Chhau Kendra, who recommended Hembram’s name for the award, described the honour as a matter of pride for Jharkhand and the Santhal community. Public representatives and cultural bodies across the region have extended their congratulations to the accomplished folk artist.
