‘If Not India, Then Who?’ Palestine Seeks Urgent Medical Aid for Gaza Crisis

New Delhi/Gaza: With Gaza’s healthcare system on the brink of collapse amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, the Palestinian Embassy in India has made a heartfelt appeal to New Delhi for urgent medical assistance, invoking India’s long-standing humanitarian values and global leadership role.

In a strongly worded statement, the embassy expressed “deep concern” over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, citing relentless military operations, damaged medical infrastructure, restricted aid access, and severe funding shortages as key factors behind the crisis.

Making a direct appeal to India, the embassy stated, “This is the moment to save thousands of innocent lives. If not India and the Indian people, then who? If not now, then when? Every life matters.”

The Palestinian mission urged the Government of India to extend support through its ‘Aarogya Maitri’ humanitarian initiative, emphasizing India’s historic commitment to justice, compassion, and assistance for vulnerable communities worldwide.

According to the embassy, only 19 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals remain partially functional, leaving millions with limited access to critical healthcare services.

Palestinian Ambassador to India Abdullah M. Abu Shawesh described conditions in Gaza as “catastrophic,” pointing to widespread destruction of infrastructure and the breakdown of essential services, including sanitation systems, which has heightened the risk of disease outbreaks.

Calling for immediate international support, the ambassador said Palestinians are in desperate need of medical assistance and urged India to play a leading humanitarian role.

The appeal comes as global aid agencies continue to sound the alarm over worsening conditions in Gaza. UNICEF spokesperson James Elder reported that 265 Palestinian children have been killed since the ceasefire announced in October 2025, describing the scale of suffering as “almost beyond comparison in our lifetime.”

The United Nations and other humanitarian agencies have repeatedly warned of a deepening crisis marked by mass displacement, destroyed homes, shortages of clean drinking water, and the near-collapse of healthcare services across Gaza.

As the humanitarian emergency intensifies, Palestine’s message to India is clear: the time for medical assistance is now.
