RNS: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Friday showcased the model of its ambitious Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS) during National Space Day celebrations in the capital.
Planned for its maiden module launch in 2028, BAS will make India the third nation after the US and China to operate an independent space station. ISRO targets assembling five modules by 2035, placing India firmly among global space powers.

The first unit, BAS-01, weighing 10 tonnes, will orbit Earth at 450 km. Key features include the indigenous Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS), Bharat Docking and Berthing systems, microgravity research facilities, crew viewports, automated hatches, and provisions for refueling and spacewalks.
Designed as a multi-disciplinary research hub, BAS will support studies in space science, life sciences, medicine, and future interplanetary missions.
