ESL Steel’s #RunForZeroHunger Campaign Inspires the Masses
Bokaro: The streets of Bokaro came alive on Sunday morning as ESL Steel Limited, a Vedanta Group company, organized the grand “ESL Walkathon 2025,” a lively celebration of fitness, unity, and social responsibility.
The 10-kilometer walkathon, which began from Naya More and concluded at Lal Bahadur Shastri Chowk in Sector 6, drew more than 300 enthusiastic participants, including employees, local residents, and community members.
The event was flagged off by Praveen Singh, DSP (Chas), and Ravish Sharma, Deputy CEO and Whole-Time Director of ESL Steel Limited. Sharma, while addressing the participants, said the initiative goes beyond promoting physical fitness. “Our mission is to ensure that no child in India goes to bed hungry. Through the #RunForZeroHunger campaign, every step we take helps feed a child in need,” he said.
As part of this campaign, Vedanta Group has partnered with a unique mobile app that converts every kilometer walked or run into a meal for an underprivileged child. For each kilometer completed, the Anil Agarwal Foundation, through Nand Ghar, donates one meal — turning every participant’s effort into an act of kindness. The #RunForZeroHunger movement has been associated with the Delhi Half Marathon for the past five years, and this year’s flagship event will be held on October 12 in New Delhi.
Last year, Vedanta contributed more than ten million meals through this initiative, and a similar target has been set for 2025. The Bokaro ESL unit alone has already contributed 1,17,000 meals, a testament to the employees’ commitment to both fitness and social good.
The event saw energetic participation from employees across departments. The winners of the walkathon were Lagan Haste, who secured the first position, followed by Ravindra Kumar Pandey in second place and Jose S. L. in third, all from the Security Department.
The Walkathon was attended by several dignitaries, including Guest of Honour Chandan Dubey, Officer-in-Charge of Chira Chas, along with members of ESL’s senior leadership — Ashish Bhardwaj, Chief Commercial Officer; Shyamlee Minz, CHRO; Sanjay Sinha, Head of PR and Stakeholder Management; Anup Singh Nagi, Deputy Director, Iron Making; Sanjeev Tiwari, Deputy Director, DIP; Sukanta Biswal, Head Business Controller; Durga Prasanna Panda, Deputy Director, Central Engineering; and Jageshwer Prasad Verma, Deputy Director, Steel. They commended the participants for their energy, enthusiasm, and dedication to the cause.
The event concluded with cheers, smiles, and a shared sense of purpose as participants echoed a powerful message: “True success lies in staying fit while serving society.”
