Preserving Mithila’s Timeless Cultural Heritage
Bokaro: The Mithila Sanskritik Parishad, Bokaro — a leading organization representing the Mithila and Maithili community — celebrated the traditional Kojagara festival with vibrant performances and cultural fervor on Monday evening at the Vidyapati Auditorium of Mithila Academy Public School, Sector 4E.
The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Parishad General Secretary Neeraj Chaudhary, School President Rajendra Kumar, Secretary Dilip Kumar Jha, Mithila Mahila Samiti President Poonam Mishra, Finance Secretary Mihir Mohan Thakur, and Cultural Director Arun Pathak.
In his welcome address, Neeraj Chaudhary highlighted the spiritual and cultural significance of Kojagara Purnima, a night dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi and traditional night vigils across Mithila. He urged the Maithili community to preserve and promote the region’s timeless heritage and traditions.
The evening came alive with devotional songs and traditional Kojagara geet. Poonam Mishra and her team opened the event with Bhagwati Vandana, followed by soulful Maithili performances from Arun Pathak, Namita Jha, Jayanti Pathak, Aanchal Pathak, and Shefali Dubey, among others. Their renditions of Baua ke chhani Kojagara hey purnima ke rati… and Swarg san sundar Mithila captivated the audience. Musical accompaniment by Umesh Kumar Jha on keyboard and Vishwanath Goswami on dholak added to the evening’s charm.
Key contributors to the successful organization included Batohi Kumar, Roshan Kumar Jha, Ramesh Chaudhary, Gaurav Chaudhary, Govind Jha, Aman Kumar Jha, Rajeev Kant and Vijay Kumar Jha, along with numerous Parishad members and community representatives. The auditorium echoed with cultural pride as hundreds of Maithil families joined the celebration, reaffirming their devotion to Mithila’s rich traditions.
