Leaked Video Shows Delhi Blast Accused Umar Explaining ‘Martyrdom Operations’
New Delhi: A week after the deadly Red Fort car-bomb blast that killed at least 15 people, an undated video of accused bomber Dr. Umar Mohammad — also known as Umar-un-Nabi — has emerged online, in which he attempts to justify suicide attacks as “martyrdom operations”.
In the clip, Umar describes suicide bombing as “one of the very misunderstood concepts,” arguing that it should instead be viewed as a religiously sanctioned act. “It is a martyrdom operation… There are multiple contradictions and arguments brought against it,” he says, claiming such missions involve a person who “presumes he is going to die for sure at a particular place and time”. He adds, “No one can predict when or where they will die… Don’t fear death.”

Umar, a doctor allegedly linked to Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed, had driven a Hyundai i20 loaded with explosives into Delhi’s bustling Chandni Chowk area moments before the blast. Forensic teams are now analysing chemical residue from the scene, with initial indicators pointing to TATP, given the explosion’s intensity and shockwave pattern.
Investigators are probing how Umar acquired the chemicals, whether the device was assembled with outside help, and how it remained stable inside the vehicle for hours before detonating.
Three associates — Shaheen Saeed, Muzammil Shakeel and Adil Rather, all doctors at Faridabad’s Al-Falah University — have been arrested. Searches at their properties yielded nearly 3,000 kg of explosives and bomb-making material. Police also found a rifle and ammunition in Saeed’s car, and her passport verification suggested she may have been preparing to flee India.
Investigators are now scrutinising the group’s digital footprint, travel history and communication records to determine the scale of the module’s operations amid fears the network may have planned serial blasts across the National Capital Region.
