Indian Firm Homebound Enters Oscars 2026 International Feature Shortlist

Mumbai: Indian cinema earned a major global milestone as director Neeraj Ghaywan’s film Homebound was shortlisted in the Best International Feature Film category for the Oscars 2026, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced.

Starring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor, Homebound is among the select films chosen in the international feature race for the 98th Academy Awards. The Academy revealed shortlists across 12 categories, including cinematography, documentary features, music, sound, visual effects and international feature films.

The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on May 21, 2025, where it drew critical acclaim for its restrained storytelling and emotional intensity. Set largely in a single location, Homebound examines a dysfunctional family trapped together during a crisis, peeling back layers of trauma, suppressed conflict and fragile relationships. Critics praised the film for its nuanced performances, cinematic discipline and psychological depth.

Released in Indian theatres in September 2025, Homebound is currently streaming on Netflix, expanding its reach to a global audience ahead of the final Oscar nominations.
