News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor, calling it a transformative project set to accelerate development in Uttarakhand and the wider northern region.
Growth Engine for Uttarakhand
Describing the corridor as a catalyst for progress, Modi said the expressway would inject fresh momentum into Uttarakhand’s growth story as it enters its 26th year of statehood. He reiterated that the state is poised to play a defining role in India’s third decade of the 21st century.
pic.twitter.com/Qp2LjOO50n

Massive Infrastructure Push
Highlighting the government’s focus on infrastructure, the Prime Minister noted a sharp rise in annual investments—from under ₹2 lakh crore before 2014 to over ₹12 lakh crore today. In Uttarakhand alone, projects worth more than ₹2.25 lakh crore are currently underway.
pic.twitter.com/kNKYz4diTn

Transforming the Delhi–UP–Uttarakhand Belt
Modi pointed to rapid development across the region, including expansion of the Delhi Metro, metro connectivity in Meerut, the launch of Namo Bharat Rail, and progress on Noida International Airport, underscoring the scale of ongoing infrastructure expansion.
Faster Travel, More Jobs
Built at an investment of around ₹12,000 crore, the corridor is expected to cut travel time and logistics costs significantly, while generating employment for thousands. Passing through key districts of Uttar Pradesh, it is set to boost trade, warehousing, and industrial activity.
“This is not just a road; it opens new avenues of economic opportunity,” Modi said.

Tourism Gets a Boost
Improved connectivity to Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Mussoorie and the Char Dham circuit is expected to drive tourism. Modi said Uttarakhand is fast emerging as a hub for winter tourism, adventure sports, and destination weddings, with rising pilgrim footfall at key sites.
Balancing Development and Ecology
The Prime Minister stressed sustainable development, highlighting a 12-km elevated wildlife corridor designed to protect animal movement, including elephants. He also urged tourists to keep the region clean and plastic-free.
Cultural and Social Focus
Modi called for grand yet eco-friendly preparations for the upcoming Kumbh Mela in Haridwar and referenced the Nanda Devi Rajjat Yatra as a symbol of India’s living heritage.
