
Ranchi: In a major breakthrough against Left Wing Extremism, 27 Maoists, including several hardcore commanders carrying total rewards of ₹33 lakh, surrendered before Jharkhand Police in Ranchi on Thursday under “Operation Navjeevan”.
The surrender took place at the police headquarters in the presence of DGP Tadasha Mishra, senior police officials, CRPF officers, and Jharkhand Jaguar personnel.
Among those who surrendered were 25 cadres of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) active in the Saranda and Kolhan regions of West Singhbhum district, along with two members of the outlawed Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP). Police said 426 criminal cases are registered against the surrendered cadres across various police stations.
Large Cache of Weapons Recovered
During the surrender, the Maoists handed over a large cache of modern weapons and ammunition, including one Light Machine Gun (LMG), five INSAS rifles, nine SLR rifles, one bolt-action rifle, one pistol, 31 magazines, and nearly 3,000 live cartridges.
Police said eight of the surrendered Maoists carried cash rewards on their heads, including six with bounties of ₹5 lakh each, one with ₹2 lakh, and one woman cadre carrying a reward of ₹1 lakh.
Notorious Maoist Cadres Among Those Who Surrendered
The surrendered Maoists included several alleged hardcore operatives such as Gadi Munda alias Gulshan, Nagendra Munda alias Prabhat Munda, Rekha Munda alias Jayanti, Sagen Angaria alias Dokol, against whom 123 criminal cases are reportedly registered, Karan Tiyu, Darshan alias Binj Hansda, Suleman Hansda, Basumati Jerai alias Basu, Baijnath Munda, Raghu Kayam alias Guna, Kishore Sirka alias Durga Sirka, and Ram Dayal Munda.
Police also confirmed that several women Maoist cadres were among those who surrendered, with serious criminal cases registered against them in Chaibasa and other districts.
JJMP Members Also Surrender
Two members of the banned Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) — Sachin Baick, who carried a ₹5 lakh reward and had six cases registered against him, and Shravan Gop, against whom eight cases are registered — also laid down arms.
Officials said both cadres expressed willingness to abandon violence and return to mainstream life under the state’s rehabilitation initiative.
