News Desk: The Southwest Monsoon has officially reached the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, marking the beginning of India’s annual rainy season. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon is expected to arrive in Kerala by May 26, nearly ahead of its normal onset date, raising hopes for an early advance across many parts of the country.

Meteorologists say favourable weather conditions over the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea are supporting the rapid progress of monsoon winds. Following Kerala, the monsoon is expected to move towards Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, northeastern states, eastern India, and central regions over the coming weeks.

Jharkhand Likely to Receive Monsoon Between June 7–10

In Jharkhand, the monsoon is likely to enter between June 7 and June 10, with the Santhal Pargana region expected to witness the first spell of rain. Thereafter, the system is expected to spread gradually across Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro, and other districts.

Residents across Jharkhand are eagerly waiting for rainfall as the state continues to experience scorching temperatures and humid weather conditions. The expected arrival of monsoon is likely to bring significant relief from the ongoing heatwave.

Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to Receive Early Showers

Southern states are expected to witness the first major impact of the advancing monsoon. Kerala is likely to receive widespread rainfall by the end of May, while coastal Karnataka and parts of Tamil Nadu may also witness heavy pre-monsoon showers and thunderstorms.

Weather experts say the western coast could experience above-normal rainfall activity during the initial phase of monsoon advancement, benefiting agriculture and water reservoirs.

Northeast India May Witness Intense Rainfall Activity

States in Northeast India, including Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh, are also expected to receive active monsoon rainfall in the coming days. The region generally experiences some of the country’s heaviest rainfall during the monsoon season.

Authorities in some northeastern areas are already monitoring the possibility of localized flooding and landslides due to expected heavy rain spells.

Eastern and Northern States Await Relief from Heatwave

West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Madhya Pradesh are likely to witness gradual monsoon advancement during the first half of June. Several of these states have been battling severe heatwave conditions, with temperatures crossing 40 degrees Celsius in many districts.

The arrival of monsoon is expected to lower temperatures, improve humidity levels, and provide relief to millions affected by the intense summer heat.

Farmers Hopeful of Better Agricultural Season

The monsoon remains crucial for India’s agriculture sector, particularly for kharif crops such as paddy, maize, pulses, and oilseeds. Farmers in Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and other agrarian states are hopeful that timely rainfall will support sowing activities and improve crop output this season.

Experts, however, caution that the overall distribution of rainfall during the four-month monsoon season will be more important than the onset date alone.

IMD Closely Monitoring Monsoon Movement

The India Meteorological Department continues to monitor weather systems over the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal as the monsoon progresses northward. Pre-monsoon showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds have already started affecting several southern and eastern states.

With the monsoon advancing steadily, people across India are now looking forward to cooler temperatures, improved water availability, and relief from the prolonged summer heat.
