News Desk: A devastating explosion targeting a passenger train near Pakistan’s Quetta railway track has left at least 24 people dead and more than 100 injured, triggering panic and massive rescue operations in the restive Balochistan province.

The blast reportedly occurred near the Chaman Phatak area shortly after the train departed from Quetta cantonment. According to local authorities, the explosion struck multiple coaches, causing severe damage and derailing parts of the train. Several compartments were badly mangled, while panic-stricken passengers attempted to escape through shattered windows and damaged doors.

Officials said many of the injured sustained critical burn and shrapnel wounds. Emergency teams, paramilitary forces, railway staff, and volunteers rushed to the site and shifted victims to hospitals across Quetta, where an emergency was declared due to the high number of casualties.

Initial investigations suggest the attack may have been carried out using explosives planted near the railway track or through a suicide-style bombing targeting the moving train. Pakistani security agencies have launched a detailed probe to determine the exact nature of the explosion and identify those involved.

The banned separatist militant outfit Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack. The group has frequently targeted security personnel, railway infrastructure, and government installations in Balochistan, a province that has remained volatile for years due to insurgency and separatist violence.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the incident and expressed condolences to the families of those killed. Senior government and military officials vowed strict action against the perpetrators and promised enhanced security measures across sensitive transport routes in the country.

The attack has once again raised serious concerns over Pakistan’s internal security situation, particularly in Balochistan, where militants have repeatedly targeted trains, highways, and energy infrastructure.
