Pannun Extends Financial Support to CJP Protesters Ahead of Independence Day
News Desk: The ongoing Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protests in the national capital have drawn support from a controversial overseas figure after Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the US-based leader of the banned Khalistani outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), claimed he would provide USD 1 million to the agitation while once again advocating the breakup of India.
In a video released on social media, Pannun claimed he had interacted with CJP representatives through a virtual meeting and announced financial assistance for the protest movement. He asserted that the proposed funding would be linked to three conditions: protesters should continue their agitation until August 15, avoid any dialogue with the Central government, and boycott Independence Day celebrations.
The video ended with the message, “$1 million—help is on the way,” while urging demonstrators to sustain their campaign.

Pannun, who has long been accused by Indian agencies of promoting separatist activities from abroad, used the video to intensify his anti-India rhetoric. Claiming that a change in government alone would not be enough, he argued that the “real solution” lay in the “dissolution, disintegration and balkanisation of India.” He also announced plans for an event branded as a “Khalistan Referendum” in Indianapolis on August 16 and called upon CJP supporters to launch what he described as a “referendum against Modi.”
He further threatened to disrupt Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day programme at the Red Fort, repeating a pattern of provocative statements that Indian security agencies have previously taken seriously.
Pannun has been designated a terrorist by the Government of India under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has registered multiple cases against him over alleged anti-India activities, including attempts to incite violence, promote separatism and issue threats targeting national events. Last year, the agency accused him of conspiring to disrupt the Prime Minister’s Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremony after he allegedly announced a cash reward for preventing the event.
The latest video has added a new dimension to the CJP protests by introducing an overt endorsement from a banned separatist organisation. However, there has been no independent confirmation that CJP leaders held the meeting claimed by Pannun or accepted any financial support from SFJ. His assertions remain unverified in the public domain.
Security observers say the episode highlights the continuing efforts of overseas extremist groups to attach themselves to domestic political developments in India and amplify their separatist agenda. The development comes as the CJP agitation continues to receive widespread attention both within the country and internationally, with several global media organisations reporting on the protests from different perspectives.
