Pakistan Signs MoU With US Drone Firm Powerus, Gets Initial Order

News Desk: Pakistan has moved to deepen its cooperation with the US in unmanned warfare technology, with American drone and defence company Powerus signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Pakistan Army and securing an initial, undisclosed order for unmanned aerial systems (UAS).

The agreement was disclosed by Powerus co-founder Brett Velicovich to Reuters. The company has not revealed the number of drones, their specifications or the financial value of the order, citing security and confidentiality considerations.

Pakistan Eyes US Drone Technology

The MoU was signed after a Powerus delegation led by CEO Andrew Fox met Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on September 16.

According to Pakistan’s military, discussions focused on emerging defence technologies, procurement, production and longer-term capacity building. Powerus said the broader framework could pave the way for cooperation involving drone technology development and potentially manufacturing in Pakistan.

The immediate procurement order covers unmanned aerial systems and associated support, but details remain confidential.

Why the Powerus Deal Is Drawing Attention

The agreement comes at a significant moment for Powerus. The US company is preparing for a proposed merger with Aureus Greenway Holdings (AGH), a Nasdaq-listed company.

Under the merger agreement, Powerus is expected to become the operating company while AGH is to be renamed Powerus Corporation. US Securities and Exchange Commission filings confirm that the transaction remains subject to closing conditions and regulatory requirements.

The companies had earlier announced that the combined entity would focus on autonomous drone systems, defence technology and related applications. AGH has also adopted the Nasdaq ticker PUSA in anticipation of the combination.

Trump Family Investment Adds Spotlight

The proposed merger has attracted additional attention because Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump are investors in AGH through American Ventures. Reuters reported that Powerus executives and representatives associated with the investment have said the Trump family investment is passive and that the Trump sons were not involved in negotiating the Pakistan defence deal.

Powerus executives have also indicated interest in exploring US-Pakistan joint ventures involving drone technology, potentially extending beyond the initial procurement order.

A New Drone Chapter in US-Pakistan Defence Ties

The agreement comes as Islamabad seeks to expand defence and economic engagement with Washington. For Pakistan, access to US-developed autonomous systems could add another layer to its unmanned warfare and surveillance capabilities.

For Powerus, the Pakistan order arrives as the company prepares for a major corporate transition through its proposed merger with AGH.

However, the scale and operational significance of the deal cannot yet be determined because the number, type and intended deployment of the drones have not been publicly disclosed. The broader technology partnership will also depend on subsequent agreements and applicable US regulatory approvals.
