Adidas Cuts Jobs at India Tech Hub; Around 50% Employees Reportedly Affected

New Delhi: Sportswear major Adidas has confirmed job cuts within its technology organisation in India, with reports indicating that nearly half of the workforce at its Gurugram-based India Tech Hub could be affected.

Adidas said it had taken the decision to reduce a number of technology roles as part of efforts to align its operating model with changing business requirements. The company said the restructuring is intended to simplify parts of the organisation, strengthen critical capabilities and support its long-term operations.

Over 350 employees reportedly affected

According to reports, the Gurugram technology hub has around 700 employees, of whom 350 or more could be affected, representing roughly 45–50% of the workforce. However, Adidas has not officially disclosed the number of employees impacted, so the reported figure remains unconfirmed by the company.

The reported cuts include technology professionals such as software engineers, data scientists and data engineers.

Employees were reportedly informed about the restructuring during a town-hall meeting on September 15. Reports indicate that affected employees were divided into two groups. Some reportedly received exit letters immediately, while another group has been asked to continue until December to complete knowledge transfers and explore alternative roles within Adidas.

Adidas cites changing business and technology needs

In its statement, Adidas described the move as a difficult decision and said the changes are aimed at simplifying the organisation and strengthening capabilities considered critical to its future operations.

The company also said it is committed to providing transition assistance to employees affected by the restructuring. Details of severance packages and notice-period arrangements have not been publicly confirmed.

Gurugram remains a key Adidas technology location

Adidas’ Gurugram facility houses its local marketing organisation as well as one of its Global Engineering Tech Hubs. The company has also expanded its operations in India, including the establishment of a Global Business Services centre in Chennai in 2024.

The latest restructuring comes amid wider changes in technology employment at multinational companies operating in India. Reuters has reported that global capability centres have been taking a more cautious approach to hiring as businesses reassess technology spending and the impact of artificial intelligence on workforce requirements.

Importantly, while reports put the impact at around 350 employees or nearly 50% of the Gurugram hub, Adidas has so far confirmed only that technology roles are being reduced and has not released an official headcount.
