Islamic State claims responsibility Sri Lanka serial blast

The Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for the serial blasts in Sri Lanka.

AMAQ news agency, operated by the Islamic State, confirmed that the IS was responsible for the explosions, media reported.

However, the IS yet to provide proof to corroborate its claim. The Sri Lankan government has stated that all suspects who have been arrested in connection to the attacks are locals.

On the eve of Easter on (20 April) attack was the largest terrorist attack in the South Asian region in recent history; over 300 people including eleven foreigners were killed and 500 injured.

Speaking in Parliament, Defence State Minister Ruwan Wijewardena said initial investigations had revealed that the attack had been carried out in response to the Christchurch mosque attack in New Zealand earlier this year.
