BS4 vehicles must have to be registered by 30 April

Bokaro: People who had bought Bharat Stage IV (BS4) vehicles in the district, but could not register due to the COVID-19 lockdown, can get the registration done April 30 anyhow, informed Santosh Kumar Garg District Transport Officer Bokaro.

All such vehicle owners and dealers who could not be able to get their vehicles (Bs4) registered due to lockdown are requested to send the copies to their document at, he said.

“After getting the direction from state headquarters the district transport office will act,” added DTO.

Earlier, the last date of registration of BS4 Vehicles was 31 March but the apex court has extended the last date of registration of BS4 vehicles to 30 April after the people and dealers had contended that because of the sudden announcement of the lockdown and curfew, many could not complete the process of registration of BS4 vehicles, said an official.

Recently, the Federation of Automobile Dealers’ Association (FADA) said in a statement that the automobile dealers across India are facing a tough situation as BS 4 inventory worth of Rs several thousand crores is still lying unsold due to the impact of COVID-19 that has forced a nationwide lockdown.

“Those unsold BS 4 inventory would lead to financial hardships for the dealers, and even threaten the existence of their business,” it said.

The growing pollution forced the Indian government to ban the manufacturing and sale of BS4 vehicles. To bring down the pollution emitted from the exhaust of the vehicles on the road, the government skipped BS5 in between BS4 and came with BS6 instead. The new norms have dropped the polluting substances from the exhaust by a considerable large amount.

The changes in the emission norms from BS4 to BS6 are huge. The numeric value for the harmful gasses from the exhaust has drastically come down. “Sulphur oxides are reduced by 5-times than before while there is a 25 per cent reduction of Nitrogen Oxides in petrol engines and a nearly 70 per cent reduction in diesel BS6 vehicles,” said an expert.
