Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan dies at 53

RNS: Veteran Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan has passed away at the age of 53 years on Wednesday. He was admitted to the ICU in Mumbai’s Kokilaben hospital due to colon infection on Tuesday. Irrfan Khan is survived by his wife Sutapa and two sons.

His health suddenly deteriorated as a result of which he needed immediate medical attention.  A statement released by his family said, “Irrfan was buried at the Versova kabrastan in Mumbai at 3 pm this afternoon soon after the news of his passing away was announced. In presence were his family, close relatives and friends. Everyone paid their final respects and mourned the loss of his passing away. We pray for his peace and we hope he’s in a better place today. He was strong in his fight, and we all have to be strong too in this loss.”

In March 2018, Khan first announced that he was suffering with a rare form of neuroendocrine cancer. He had spent several months (last year) in London undergoing cancer treatment and was returned to Mumbai earlier this year.

Khan’s death shocked film fraternity as well as his fans too. He was “a rare talent and a brilliant actor,” tweeted President Ram Nath Kovind. Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Irrfan Khan’s death as “a loss to the world of cinema and theatre” in his condolence tweet.
