Bokaro: ESL Steel Limited, a Vedanta Group Company organised COVID-19 camps across six villages in Bokaro district of Jharkhand as part of its community health initiative “Aarogya”.
Aiming to help people in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic health camps were organised at Bhagabandh, Alkusha, Dhandabar, Huthupath, Bandhdih and Buribinor villages, informed a Public Relations official of ESL.
The ESL CSR team, which put in a lot of effort to make the initiative successful, was joined by implementing partner ‘Citizens Foundation’ while Imtiyaz Khan and his team contributed from the Government Department. Around 437 people got benefited through the camps during the months of August and September, said the official.
Shyam Singh, Project Coordinator, Citizens Foundation, said, “We have tested about 437 people in six villages and mobilised these people and made them aware on how to protect themselves from COVID-19.” The project was executed by ESL along with Citizens Foundation and the district health department, he said.
“ESL provided the funds and manpower to conduct these camps and also managed social mobilization through social media. We intend to take this forward to other areas in the state and have plans for 2-3 more such initiatives,” he added.
Ashish Ranjan, Head – Community Relations, ESL said, ESL is making rapid progress in community development through its continuous efforts. “We at ESL take it as our duty and responsibility to work for the well-being of the society and therefore ‘Project Aarogya’ is very close to our hearts,” he added.
We want to eliminate the risk of the virus and protect the people by providing valuable information around the pandemic. We have been successful so far and aim to continue doing well in the area to the best of our ability, said Ranjan.
Notably, ESL Steel is a leading manufacturer of steel products in Siyaljori village of the Bokaro district of Jharkhand. It has a 1.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) Greenfield integrated steel plant that produces pig iron, billets, TMT bars, wire rods, and ductile iron pipes.
