Ranchi Outreach: Sangeet Natak Akademi Chief Connects with Tribal Artists, Flags Schemes & Heritage Push
Ranchi: In a ground-level cultural outreach across Ranchi district, Dr. Sandhya Purecha, head of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, met folk artists from remote villages and spotlighted central welfare schemes aimed at supporting traditional art communities.

Touring villages including Barihatu, Sonarat, Saudih and Bundu, she led a vibrant “Art Dialogue” and “Meet the Artist” session that brought together practitioners of Sendra, Paika and Mundari Karma traditions, along with large village participation.

The one-day programme focused on direct engagement—informing artists about government support, discussing the decline of traditional instruments, and showcasing live performances. The initiative aims to identify, support and honour grassroots talent often overlooked in remote regions.

Accompanying her were Dr. Sanjay of the Chhau Kendra Chandankiyari, along with cultural practitioners including Ajit Bharti Manki.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Purecha said folk artists remain the true custodians of India’s civilisational heritage, preserving traditions through music, dance and oral transmission despite hardships. She urged greater youth—especially women—participation in safeguarding these art forms.

Dr. Sanjay underlined the policy shift under the National Education Policy 2020, noting that arts have gained formal academic space, moving beyond being treated as merely extracurricular.

The outreach marks a broader push to bridge policy and practice—taking institutional support directly to village artists while reviving endangered traditions through dialogue, recognition and sustained engagement.
