IIT (ISM) holds International Conference on Environmental challenges

RNS: IIT(ISM) Dhanbad organized a Virtual International conference on the issue of recent ‘Environmental Changes and Emerging Contaminants’ on Wednesday.

The conference was organised by the Department of Environment Science and Engineering, ISM, focused on the emerging environmental changes and the challenges of new world contaminants in view of the ongoing pandemic.

As a modern scientific community, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad remains active even in this pandemic, said a media and branding cell official from ISM Dhanbad.

Over 150 participants attended the conference where international key-note speakers shared their experience and research on the subject, which was later acknowledged as crucial for future research, informed the official.

Dr. Sanjeeb Mohapatra, a key-note speaker from the National University of Singapore, shared insights on ‘Contaminants of Emerging Concern during Covid 19 Pandemic’. While a foreign guest and speaker, Professor Sunil K. Lal (FNASc.), Monash University (Sunway campus), Malaysia, delivered a lecture on ‘Environmental Changes and Emerging Zoonotic Diseases’.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest and Director, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, Professor Rajiv Shekhar, highlighted the importance of coping up with new challenges in the modern world.

Shekhar also shared the institute’s vision of leading research from the forefront under the plan ‘Anusandhan 2020’ and ‘Anusandhan 2030’.

The Guest of Honour for the event, Professor Shalivahan, Deputy Director and Dean (R&D), IIT(ISM) Dhanbad, expressed his view on emerging contaminants and the impacts of antibiotics.

Professor Vipin Kumar, Associate Professor and Convener of the conference, delivered the welcome address and explained the importance of the conference. The Head of the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering Professor Alok Sinha welcomed the participants and share the information about the Departments.

The vote of thanks was given by Professor Tinesh Pathania, the co-convener of the event.
