RNS: “Amrit Udyan” will be the new name for what was once known as the “Mughal Gardens” in Rashtrapati Bhavan.
In honour of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav commemorating India’s 75th anniversary of independence, President Droupadi Murmu renamed the six gardens of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, including the famous Mughal Gardens, as Amrit Udyan on Saturday.
Visitors to the Rashtrapati Bhavan could enjoy the Mughal Gardens, now a part of the Amrit Udyan, which cover an area of 15 acres. Rashtrapati Bhavan will open five of its gardens for the public for two months starting from 31 January.
Rashtrapati Bhavan has a wide range of gardens, including the East Lawn, Central Lawn, Long Garden and Circular Garden.
Though, Herbal-I, Herbal-II, Tactile Garden, Bonsai Garden, and Arogya Vanam are some of the newer gardens that were developed while Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Ram Nath Kovind were in office as presidents of India. Other gardens that were created include Bonsai Garden and Arogya Vanam.
“The President of India is pleased to grant a common name to the Rashtrapati Bhavan gardens as ‘Amrit Udyan’ on the occasion of the commemoration of 75 years of Independence as ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav,” said in a communique released by Rashtrapati Bhavan.
