Teen picks death after mother denied money for mobile recharge

A 17-year-old youth allegedly committed suicide after his mother denied money to recharge the mobile phone at Kurma village under Pindrajor Police Station of Bokaro district in Jharkhand.

According to the police body of the youth was found hanging from a Palash tree in Babaji forest at Pindrajora on Saturday evening. The deceased, Banti Bauri is suspected to have killed himself because his mother did not give in to his demand of Rs 200 to recharge the mobile phone, police said.

Banti had been missing since Wednesday afternoon. The villagers found him hanging from a tree and later, they called the police and the body was brought down from the tree, police said.

Hiralal Baurai, the father of the deceased and his mother are daily wage earners. On Wednesday morning, Banti demanded Rs 200 to recharge his mobile phone from his mother, but she denied it as our financial condition is not well now, said Hiralal.

According to the neighbour’s statement to the police, “Irked Banti left the house at around 11 am and did not return home till evening. We, along with kin and villagers, tried a lot but failed. On Saturday, some forest dwellers (women) who went into the forest to pick dry woods informed us, and later we found his body hanging from a Palash tree,” police said.

“There was no suicide note; a UD case has been filed and we are investigating the matter; the body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem,” said OC of Pindrajora police station.
