World’s first 100% ethanol car unveiled in Delhi

RNS: World’s first 100% ethanol-fueled car was introduced in New Delhi to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and improve fuel efficiency. Toyota Innova HyCross is said to be World’s first BS-VI (Stage-II), electrified flex-fuel vehicle.

On Tuesday, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari launched the world’s first 100% ethanol-fueled car.

Speaking on the occasion, Gadkari called this day historic since the world’s first BS-VI (Stage-II), electrified flex-fuel car runs on ethanol. Concerned about automobile pollution, the Minister said the country needs more sustainable and strict pollution control measures.

He highlighted that the country must minimise oil imports to become self-sufficient. He stated that adopting ethanol-blended fuel will boost the country’s agriculture sector and create many jobs.

Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated that 20 per cent ethanol blending in petrol will save 35 thousand crore rupees in import bills.  He noted that India agreed 10% ethanol five months early in the 2022 target.

He added that the country wants to join the International Biofuel Alliance.
