RNS: Congress has expelled its senior party leader Acharya Pramod Krishnam for six years. The decision comes in the wake of repeated instances of indiscipline and public statements against the party by Krishnam.
A statement issued by the party revealed that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee’s proposal to expel Pramod Krishnam from the party. The expulsion, effective immediately, is a response to complaints of indiscipline and Krishnam’s persistent criticism of the party’s decisions.
Krishnam, who also holds the stature of a spiritual leader, had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Lucknow constituency on a Congress ticket, albeit unsuccessfully.
In recent times, Krishnam has attracted attention for openly expressing dissent against the Congress leadership. Notably, he criticized the party’s choice to abstain from attending the consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya on January 22, labeling the decision as unfortunate. He asserted that the absence of the Congress from such events, particularly those associated with Lord Ram, is inconceivable, highlighting his differing stance from the party’s official position.
The expulsion of Acharya Pramod Krishnam underscores the Congress party’s firm stance on maintaining discipline and unity within its ranks. The decision reflects the party’s intolerance towards public dissent and serves as a reminder of the consequences for those who deviate from the party line.
