IIT-ISM Faculty Enhances Digital Skills of Tribal Students at Eklavya Model Residential School

Dumka: A team of faculty members from IIT-ISM Dhanbad visited the Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) in Kathijoria as part of a capacity-building training program focused on basic and advanced information technology and computer skills for tribal students in Jharkhand.

The initiative, conducted by the Centre of Excellence for Tribal Development at IIT-ISM, aims to provide training to over 1,500 tribal students across seven EMRS institutions in the region, including EMRS Basia, EMRS Tasaria, and EMRS Kujra. Today’s visit included 12 students from Classes 10 and 11, who engaged in interactive sessions designed to enhance their computer knowledge.

Professor Niladri Das and Professor Rashmi Singh led the training, guiding students through essential aspects of information technology. In addition to technical instruction, the professors offered motivational support, stressing the importance of digital literacy in today’s world.

The students showed enthusiasm during the sessions, expressing eagerness to apply their newfound skills in their studies and everyday lives. Many highlighted how the program has boosted their confidence and increased their motivation to engage with technology, which they believe will be beneficial for their educational and career paths.

Professor Singh, the coordinator of the program, emphasized that the initiative is part of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s broader outreach efforts to foster educational growth in underserved regions. “The training program aims to equip these students with essential digital skills for both their academic and professional futures,” she stated.

Professor Das added, “This initiative is a step forward in bridging the digital divide, empowering young minds in Jharkhand with the skills necessary for the modern world.”

The visit underscores the meaningful collaboration between premier educational institutions like IIT-ISM Dhanbad and local schools, contributing to the overall development and empowerment of students in the region.
