Sukhdev Murmu Urges PM Modi to Support Tribal Rights Ahead of Visit to Jharkhand

Bokaro: Sukhdev Murmu, Bokaro Sengal District President and Zonal Head, announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Hazaribagh on October 2, 2024, coinciding with Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. This visit will involve the announcement of various government schemes on the historic lands of Birsa Munda and Sido Murmu.

Murmu expressed hope that the Prime Minister would address the needs of the 15 crore tribal population in India by announcing the “Sarna Dharma Code.” This initiative aims to protect tribals from forced conversions to other religions. He also called for the return of Marang Buru (Parasnath Mountain) to the tribal community, which was transferred to the Jains by Chief Minister Hemant Soren in January 2023.

Highlighting the inclusion of the Santali language in the Eighth Schedule in 2003, Murmu urged that it be recognized as the first official language in Jharkhand, allowing for better communication in their mother tongue. He also demanded that the All Chiki script of Santali be included on Indian currency, as has been done for other languages.

The meeting included notable attendees such as Jharkhand State Convenor Karamchand Hansda, Bokaro District Convenor Bhim Murmu, and Chas Block Sengal Youth Front President Kalicharan Kisku, among others. Murmu emphasized the need for constitutional law and democratic practices in the governance of tribal villages.
