*Surge in Demand for Readymade Ravana Effigies in Kanpur*

Kanpur: The demand for readymade Ravana effigies has seen a significant rise in Kanpur, with shoppers from nearby districts flocking to the city to make their purchases. Traditionally associated with Ramlila celebrations, the burning of Ravana is now a popular event in neighborhoods as well.
Local artisans report that the appeal of readymade Ravana lies in their affordability and variety, with prices ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 5,000. Mohan Lal, a resident of Farrukhabad, shared, “I buy Ravana’s effigy from Kanpur every year because of the wide selection available here.”
Kamal Kant, a long-time maker and seller of Ravana effigies, noted an increasing trend in purchases from towns like Hamirpur, Orai, and Ramabai Nagar. He stated, “In recent years, the demand has surged, especially among children.”
On GT Road, the scene resembles a bustling fair, with hundreds of buyers selecting readymade Ravanas for their celebrations.
This surge in popularity reflects a growing tradition as more families opt to bring home these colorful effigies to mark the festival.
