PM Modi Hails Pixxel Space’s Historic Milestone with India’s First Private Satellite Constellation

RNS: India’s Bengaluru-based space tech startup Pixxel Space has achieved a major milestone in the field of hyperspectral imaging with the successful deployment of its Firefly constellation. This marks a historic moment as it is the first private satellite constellation launched by an Indian company.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded Pixxel Space for its groundbreaking achievement, emphasizing the role of India’s youth and the expanding influence of the private sector in the nation’s space industry.

In a post on social media, the Prime Minister celebrated the milestone, stating, “India’s first private satellite constellation by Pixxel Space showcases the exceptional talent of India’s youth and highlights the expanding capabilities of our private sector in the space industry.”

The launch took place on January 14, when a SpaceX rocket lifted off from California, carrying three of the six Firefly satellites. These satellites are equipped with cutting-edge hyperspectral imaging technology capable of observing Earth across more than 150 spectral bands. Their potential applications span a wide range of sectors, from agricultural monitoring to defense strategy.

Following the successful launch, Pixxel Space confirmed that all three satellites had successfully deployed their solar panels, stabilized their orbits, aligned with the sun, and established secure two-way communications.

The company shared its excitement on social media, stating, “They’re alive, working, and ready for the next phase. Onward to unlocking their full potential.”

This achievement marks a significant step forward for India’s space sector, reinforcing the growing capabilities of its private space industry.
