Bokaro Steel City Station to Get a World-Class Renovation Under AMRUT Yojana

Bokaro: Bokaro Steel City Station, an essential part of India’s freight and passenger transport network, is set for a major transformation under the “AMRUT Station Yojana.” This redevelopment aims to turn the station into a world-class facility, enhancing both passenger experience and operational efficiency. The station is one of 72 across West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha selected for redevelopment as part of the scheme.

Located in the heart of the industrial city of Bokaro, the station serves as a crucial access point to the mineral-rich area and surrounding regions. It plays an important role in connecting major industrial units like the Bokaro Steel Plant, Thermal Power Plant, cement factories, and also handles a significant freight loading yard. The station’s strategic location makes the redevelopment project especially important for improving regional transportation.

The redeveloped station will feature a modern and iconic design, with a spacious concourse offering a variety of amenities. These include retail stores, a cafeteria, waiting areas, and an executive lounge. The station plaza will have ample parking space, and the design will ensure smooth traffic flow through multi-modal integration.

To improve passenger convenience, the station will be equipped with a new passenger information system, digital signboards, and display systems. New foot overbridges, lifts, and escalators will be installed to enhance accessibility. Other features will include Divyaangjan-friendly facilities, free Wi-Fi, a fire-fighting system, and a “One Station One Product” kiosk to promote local products.

So far, several key works have been completed, such as the development of the station facade, a VIP lounge, parking areas for two- and four-wheelers, and the upgrade of the concourse area. Additional works, such as the installation of a false ceiling on the platform shed, construction of a second-class waiting room, and a new 12-meter-long foot overbridge, are still underway and will be completed in phases.

The redevelopment of Bokaro Steel City Station aims to improve the overall travel experience while ensuring minimal disruption to railway operations. Once finished, the station will serve as a modern hub for both passengers and freight, boosting the region’s industrial growth and supporting its growing population.
