New Delhi: In a decisive overnight counter-terror operation, the Indian Armed Forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, striking multiple terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The operation was conducted in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national.
According to the Ministry of Defence, nine terror-linked locations were targeted in the operation. The strikes, the ministry said, were “calibrated, focused, and non-escalatory”, ensuring that no Pakistani military or civilian installations were hit. “India has exercised significant restraint in both the selection of targets and the method of execution,” the official statement emphasized.

Top defence sources said the strikes were aimed at dismantling camps responsible for planning and launching cross-border terror attacks into India. A detailed briefing by defence officials is expected later in the day.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was closely monitoring the situation through the night, senior government officials confirmed.
Reacting to the development, U.S. President Donald Trump urged restraint and expressed hope that the situation would not spiral into further escalation. The Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C., meanwhile, defended the operation as a “precision strike based on credible intelligence,” reaffirming that all efforts were made to avoid civilian casualties.
India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval also held consultations with his American counterpart and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, briefing them on the mission’s objectives and scope.
Back home, with tensions running high along the Line of Control, authorities have shut schools and colleges in Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, and Poonch districts for the day. Flight operations at Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Amritsar, and Dharamshala airports have also been temporarily suspended.
Air India, in a public advisory on social media platform X, confirmed the cancellation of all scheduled flights to and from the affected regions until 12 noon on May 7. Two international flights to Amritsar were diverted to Delhi.
While the region remains on high alert, Indian officials insist that Operation Sindoor is a strategic move to ensure accountability and disrupt terror infrastructure, rather than provoke conflict.
