New Delhi: In a swift and coordinated military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 civilians dead, India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ in the early hours of Wednesday, targeting terrorist infrastructure across Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan. The operation lasted just 25 minutes, with strikes conducted by the Army, Navy, and Air Force in a rare display of tri-service coordination.
According to Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, a total of 21 terror-linked sites were targeted, including Muridke, Bahawalpur, Balakot, Kotli, and Chelabandi—locations long believed to host training camps and operational hubs of Pakistan-based terror groups.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD), in a post-operation statement, emphasized that the strikes were “focused, measured, and non-escalatory”, specifically avoiding Pakistani military and civilian installations. The operation, it said, was “a precise and necessary step to dismantle infrastructure enabling cross-border terrorism.”

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, speaking alongside military officials at a press briefing, described the Pahalgam massacre as “marked by extreme barbarity”, noting that victims were executed at close range in front of family members. “This was psychological warfare—meant to instill fear and disrupt the return of normalcy in Kashmir,” he said.
Misri confirmed that Indian intelligence had detected ongoing preparations for further attacks, prompting the need for pre-emptive and proportionate action. “We exercised our sovereign right to respond, deter, and prevent further bloodshed. Operation Sindoor was conducted responsibly, with a clear focus on eliminating terror camps, not escalating tensions.”
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) also stated that the nine key sites hit had been directly involved in planning and launching attacks against India, and that the strikes were based on high-grade, real-time intelligence.
While the region remains on high alert, Indian authorities have reiterated that Operation Sindoor is not a provocation, but a message—that terror infrastructure enabling atrocities like Pahalgam will not be tolerated.
