In order to appreciate all parents for their selfless commitment to children and their lifelong sacrifices in nurturing this vital relationship, the Global Day of Parents is observed every year on 1 June.
The theme for 2025 is “Raising Parents.” This theme acknowledges that parenting is a learned skill and emphasizes the importance of providing parents and caregivers with the necessary support, resources, and training to raise children effectively.
This observance recognizes that the family unit is essential for the social, emotional, and physical development of children. It serves as the foundation for creating responsible, compassionate, and productive citizens. The Global Day of Parents highlights the pivotal role of mothers, fathers, and guardians in shaping the future of their children.
The day honors the efforts of parents in guiding the mental, emotional, and physical growth of their kids. It also offers a moment to express gratitude for their unconditional love, patience, and unwavering dedication.
Celebrating the Global Day of Parents can be as simple as taking a moment to thank your parents or guardians for their love and support. After all, parents have carried this noble responsibility since the beginning of human history—bringing children into the world and raising them into happy, healthy, and capable individuals is no small feat.
Being a parent is one of life’s greatest joys and responsibilities. The love, care, and effort parents pour into raising their children is unmatched. Recognizing their sacrifices and contributions is essential to appreciating the secure, balanced lives they strive to provide.
Studies show that trauma and emotional wounds experienced during childhood can significantly hinder a child’s development and their future outlook on life. This, in turn, becomes a barrier to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In the 1980s, the United Nations began emphasizing the importance of family-related issues, understanding how children’s emotional and mental well-being affects broader aspects of development. On December 9, 1989, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution declaring 1994 as the International Year of the Family. Later, in 1993, another resolution established May 15 as the International Day of Families.
Parents play a central role in a child’s upbringing, taking on countless responsibilities and challenges. They provide the emotional, financial, educational, and moral support necessary throughout a child’s formative years. Parents are the guiding light in their children’s lives—nurturing them, equipping them with life skills, and making selfless sacrifices to ensure their success and well-being.
Those who share a healthy, trusting relationship with their parents—a bond built on friendship, respect, and understanding—are truly fortunate. It is indeed a blessing to have loving, supportive parents.
Parents’ Day is the perfect occasion to express your appreciation and love. It reminds us of the invaluable role parents play in our lives and encourages children to cherish and strengthen that bond. In today’s fast-paced world, this day provides a meaningful opportunity for families to reconnect and spend quality time together.
Let us celebrate the Global Day of Parents by honoring their immeasurable contributions, recognizing their sacrifices, and expressing heartfelt gratitude for the life and love they’ve given us.
