Washington, D.C.: Tech titan Elon Musk has ignited a political firestorm by publicly alleging that former U.S. President Donald Trump is named in the notorious Epstein files — a claim that could reshape the 2024 political landscape. Musk also threw his weight behind calls for Trump’s impeachment and suggested Vice President JD Vance should take over.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Musk stunned followers with a cryptic but charged message:
“Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT! Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.”
In a follow-up exchange, Musk endorsed a post that read:
“Trump should be impeached and JD Vance should replace him.”
Musk’s blunt reply: “Yes.”

What Are the Epstein Files?
The Epstein files are a massive cache of documents tied to Jeffrey Epstein, the late financier and convicted sex offender, accused of running an elite sex trafficking ring with ties to powerful global figures. The files include names, call logs, and contact records. Though the Department of Justice confirmed in February 2025 that Trump is among the individuals listed, most of the documents remain under wraps.

A Crumbling Alliance
Musk and Trump were once aligned, but their relationship has turned bitter in recent months. A key flashpoint was Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which proposed slashing electric vehicle mandates — a direct blow to Musk’s Tesla business. Musk fiercely opposed the move.
Trump responded with a jab:
“I’m very disappointed with Elon. I’ve helped him a lot… He didn’t care until we touched EV subsidies.”
🚨 NEW: Trump speaks on Elon coming out against the BBB
“I would have won Pennsylvania regardless of Elon…I’m very disappointed with Elon. He knew this bill better than anyone and he only developed a problem when he found out I would cut the EV mandate…

Musk hit back hard:
“Without me, Trump would have lost. The Democrats would run the House, and Republicans would be 51–49 in the Senate. Such ingratitude.”
Adding to the split, Musk resigned last week from his advisory role in the federal Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), ending any remaining ties with the Trump White House.
Political Earthquake in Motion
Musk’s allegations — and his open support for JD Vance as a replacement — have added fuel to a volatile election year. With Trump already facing multiple legal challenges and internal GOP divisions, Musk’s dramatic intervention could deepen rifts within the Republican Party and shift voter sentiment.
Whether the full Epstein files will be released — and what they might reveal — remains to be seen.
