Cairo: Delegations from Hamas, Israel, and the United States are set to begin crucial talks in Egypt today aimed at ending months of relentless conflict in Gaza. The negotiations, mediated by Cairo, mark what Washington officials are calling the “most serious step” toward a lasting ceasefire since fighting reignited earlier this year.
US President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Hamas, saying the group faces “complete obliteration” if it refuses to surrender power and accept his 20-point ceasefire plan — a roadmap that includes a phased Israeli withdrawal and the establishment of a transitional authority to govern Gaza.
Trump’s Peace Blueprint and Tough Warning
Speaking to CNN, Trump declared that the ceasefire plan could take effect “immediately” if Hamas agrees to the terms. He revealed that Israel has already accepted an initial withdrawal line — dubbed the “yellow line” — and would halt its bombing campaign once the agreement is signed.
“Hamas can save lives and Gaza’s future if it acts wisely,” Trump said, reaffirming that the US remains fully committed to overseeing the deal’s implementation.

Details of the Ceasefire Proposal
Under the US framework, Hamas must release all 48 remaining hostages, including about 20 believed to be alive, within three days, disarm, and hand over administrative control of Gaza to a transitional committee backed by regional and international partners. In exchange, Israel would free a set number of Palestinian prisoners and gradually scale back its military operations in the region.
Israel’s opposition leader expressed cautious optimism, saying both sides understand the “enormous humanitarian and political stakes” involved.
Cairo Talks and Regional Mediation
US envoy Steve Witkoff will represent Washington at the talks, alongside Egyptian and Qatari mediators. An Egyptian official confirmed that Monday’s discussions will first address the hostage-prisoner exchange, followed by mechanisms to implement the political framework outlined in Trump’s proposal.
The world now watches Cairo, as the outcome of these talks could determine whether Gaza moves toward peace — or plunges deeper into destruction.
