Mumbai: In a key development, the Maharashtra Police has detained a suspect in a cyber harassment case involving the teenage daughter of actor Akshay Kumar, marking the first arrest in the matter, as per media reports.
Friendly Chat Turns Sinister
Investigators say the incident began on an online gaming platform, where the 13-year-old was approached by an unknown user. What started as casual conversation—common in multiplayer gaming spaces—reportedly took a shocking turn when the individual asked the minor to share explicit images.
Actor Flags the Incident Publicly
Akshay Kumar had earlier spoken about the episode at a cyber awareness event hosted at the Mumbai police headquarters. He described how the exchange appeared harmless at first, before abruptly becoming inappropriate and alarming.

Presence of Mind Averts Risk
The actor noted that his daughter reacted decisively—she quit the platform immediately and alerted her mother. He underscored that such awareness and prompt communication within families can play a critical role in preventing further harm.
Rising Threat to Young Users
Using the incident as a cautionary example, Akshay warned that such interactions often lay the groundwork for more serious crimes, including coercion and emotional exploitation of minors in digital spaces.
Call for Systematic Awareness
He also appealed to Devendra Fadnavis to introduce structured cyber safety education in schools, suggesting weekly sessions to prepare students for online risks.
While the arrest signals progress in the investigation, the case has once again spotlighted the urgent need for stronger safeguards and awareness as children increasingly navigate the digital world.
