‘Bihar Deserves Its Own IPL Team’: Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal Backs State’s Cricket Talent

Bokaro: From producing explosive stars like Ishan Kishan to nurturing rising talents from small towns, Bihar’s cricketing potential can no longer be ignored. Now, industrialist Anil Agarwal has made a strong pitch for a dedicated IPL franchise for the state. Calling Bihar a “cricket powerhouse in the making,” the Vedanta Chairman said the state deserves a grand stage in the Indian Premier League, just like Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Drawing comparisons with some of the IPL’s most iconic franchises, Agarwal said Bihar too should have a “strong and glorious” cricket team representing the aspirations and talent of its people.

Highlighting Bihar’s growing contribution to Indian cricket, Agarwal pointed to several rising stars from the state. He praised Patna-born Ishan Kishan for scripting history with the fastest ODI double century, while also mentioning Samastipur’s young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi for becoming one of the youngest players to make an IPL debut.

In a post on X, Agarwal wrote in Hindi: “Don’t you think Bihar too deserves its own team like Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders? Bihar’s soil has produced many outstanding cricketers for the country.”

He also lauded emerging pacer Sakib Hussain from Gopalganj, whose performances are attracting national attention despite his modest background.

Agarwal said that despite producing remarkable talent, Bihar has not yet received the recognition, infrastructure, and opportunities it truly deserves in the cricketing ecosystem.

“Our youth should get world-class infrastructure, quality coaching, and a strong support system within Bihar itself,” he said, adding that empowering young cricketers with the right facilities and encouragement could transform Bihar into one of the strongest cricketing forces in the future.

Reaffirming his commitment to the state’s sporting future, Agarwal pledged full support for Bihar’s budding cricketers and the dream of building a competitive cricket team from the state.

“For me, Bihar is not just a state, it is an emotion. The time has now come for Bihar’s talent to shine brightly on the cricket field,” he said.
