In what is being described as one of the darkest days in Indian aviation history, an Air India flight crashed just minutes after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport on Thursday, June 12, killing more than 300 people in a catastrophic explosion that turned the aircraft and nearby structures into a raging inferno.
Amid the devastation, one discovery left even hardened rescue workers speechless — a copy of the Bhagavad Gita was recovered miraculously intact, surviving flames so intense they melted iron.
The crash site resembled a war zone — twisted metal, disfigured wreckage, and ashes where lives once existed. Flames reportedly reached temperatures exceeding 1,000°C, fueled by 1.25 lakh litres of aviation fuel, incinerating passengers, crew, and even nearby wildlife. Witnesses said the aircraft turned into a “blazing fireball” seconds after losing control and crashing near a residential hostel.
As relief teams braved the scorching heat and sifted through the debris, a jaw-dropping moment unfolded: a young SDRF member lifted a partially singed copy of the Bhagavad Gita — its core untouched, inner pages flawless, and vibrant illustrations of Lord Krishna still vivid.
“I’ve seen disaster zones, but never a miracle like this,” said a visibly shaken SDRF official. “Everything else was destroyed — metal curled like paper. But this Gita? It was as if it had divine protection.”
Another team member added,
“We couldn’t even stand near the wreckage for long due to the heat. The fact that paper survived where metal didn’t — it’s beyond science.”
The emotional moment, captured on video, has since gone viral across social media, sparking a national wave of spiritual awe. From religious believers to skeptics, thousands have called it a “divine sign”, a “message from above” amid a landscape of tragedy.
One miracle stacked upon another — among the 242 passengers onboard, only one man, Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, survived with minor injuries. His testimony is now a key part of the official investigation.
Bhagavad Gita was found from the debris of the plane crash. The surprising thing is that the book did not burn even in the midst of such a fierce fire.

While authorities — including Indian and international aviation experts — analyze black box data to determine the cause of the crash, the survival of the Gita has already transformed into a symbol of hope, resilience — and perhaps something far greater.
