Patna: Health Minister Mangal Pandey on Sunday announced that medical colleges in Bihar with burn units will soon be equipped with skin bank facilities, as part of the state government’s efforts to enhance burn care infrastructure. The announcement was made during the National Academy of Burn India’s (NABI) conference on “Educate and Eliminate” held in Patna, where senior doctors from across the country participated.
Pandey said that burn injuries are not just physically traumatic but also leave deep mental scars, and emphasized the need for better treatment, public awareness, and community support. “Burn care is a serious challenge, but Bihar is making steady progress under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s leadership,” he stated.
Recalling earlier gaps in the system, the minister said that Bihar’s largest hospital, PMCH, didn’t even have a burn ICU until recently. “During my tenure, we have set up a burn ICU in PMCH and improved patient facilities across government hospitals,” he added.
He also highlighted the success of Bihar’s first large-scale health fair, where thousands of patients received free medicines and multi-disease screenings—calling it a step toward building a “healthy and prosperous Bihar.”
Pandey stressed the role of doctors in spreading awareness about burn injuries and urged society to join hands in supporting victims and prevention efforts.
