Falta Repoll Result 2026: BJP Crushes TMC in Diamond Harbour Stronghold

Kolkata: In a stunning political upset in West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registered a massive victory in the Falta Assembly constituency repoll on Sunday, breaching what was once projected as the ruling Trinamool Congress’ “Diamond Harbour fortress.”

BJP candidate Debangshu Panda stormed to victory with a landslide margin exceeding one lakh votes, triggering celebrations within the saffron camp and intensifying pressure on the TMC leadership ahead of future electoral battles in the state.

After the final round of counting, Panda secured an overwhelming 1,49,666 votes. His nearest challenger, CPI(M) candidate Sambhu Nath Kurmi, managed 40,645 votes, trailing by nearly one lakh votes.

Congress candidate Abdur Razzak Molla finished third with 10,084 votes, while former TMC nominee Jahangir Khan slipped to fourth place with just 7,783 votes — despite his dramatic withdrawal announcement before the repoll.

Counting began at 8 am amid tight security arrangements, with BJP workers erupting in celebration as Panda steadily widened his lead throughout the day.

BJP Targets TMC’s ‘Diamond Harbour Model’

West Bengal opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari seized the opportunity to attack the Trinamool Congress over the result, taking a swipe at the much-publicised “Diamond Harbour model.”

In a sharp post on X, Adhikari remarked that the so-called model had now transformed into “Trinamool’s Loss-Bar model.”

Thanking the voters of Falta, he described the mandate as historic and promised rapid development in the constituency.

“I had appealed for a BJP victory margin of one lakh votes, and the people have crossed even that mark. We will honour this trust through development and work towards building a golden Falta,” he said.

Adhikari also launched a fierce political attack on the TMC, accusing the party of functioning like a “mafia company” driven by corruption, intimidation, and syndicate politics.

“This is only the beginning. In the coming elections, the Trinamool Congress may face an even tougher challenge against NOTA,” he claimed.

‘Pushpa Raj is Over’: Panda’s Dig at TMC

Fresh from his massive win, Debangshu Panda mocked both the TMC and former candidate Jahangir Khan with a dramatic political one-liner.

“Pushpa Raj is over. Now the common people will rule Falta,” Panda said, hinting at a shift in local political power dynamics.

He further promised that Falta would witness “real development” under BJP leadership in the coming years.

Why Was the Repoll Held?

The Election Commission of India had ordered a repoll in select booths of the constituency following allegations of widespread irregularities during the original voting process.

Opposition parties had accused local authorities and ruling party workers of voter intimidation, obstruction near polling stations, and procedural violations.

After reviewing reports submitted by election observers and polling officials, the Commission directed fresh polling to ensure a free and fair election.
